On the 10th June Regatta Sailing Academy hosted the annual inter-schools regatta and what an exciting afternoon it was.
Held just off the beach at Katara the sailors had perfect conditions for the competition with 1012 knots from the NW. Sailors represented each of the schools that have been sailing with us over the year in the Laser, Laser Pico, and RS Tera class. Each class was hotly contested with 3 races and only a few points separating sailors by the end.
The Laser class was dominated by Connor Jefford from ASD with 3 wins but was pushed hard by a new sailor and eventual 2nd place Sean Emerson from CISD with Sara Zaffagni coming in a solid 3rd for ISLQ.
The Pico class was well fought but Sam and Tabitha Shadbolt (ISLQ) were too good for Timme van den Wal and Dan Morris (CISD) who took straight firsts and seconds respectively. Third was eventually taken by Neasa Tubridy and Lutfi Jalbout (ASD).
The Tera class was well fought with Alex Crowe (CISD) looking to dominate but Joe Jarrett (ISLQ) came through strong to win the final race but it wasn't enough and Alex took the overall victory, Joe second and Tom Rush (Parkhouse) sailed well for 3rd.
We also held a Funboat race for the less experienced sailors which was won by the crew of Aiden Lal and Saul Saunders from Sherborne school, very well done.
The school prize couldn't have been much closer with CISD (5 points) pipping ISLQ (6 points) to the victory with ASD(10 points) in 3rd. All three teams consisted of sailors from the Academy's racing team as well as some sailors that have only started learning with us this year, a great effort!
We would like to thank all of the sailors for making the event so competitive and fun to watch, the Academy instructors for running an enjoyable and safe event and all of the spectators that cheered on their sailors!
