12th March 2008 - Maktoum Trophy Update
Crew of the Regatta Sailing Academy’s Yacht “The Office” sponsored by ConocoPhillips have returned to Doha after a week’s racing in the Maktoum Trophy in Dubai. This is the first time the yacht has entered a race with a training crew of both Qatari and resident ex-pats. “They did extremely well to finish 6th” said skipper Mike Lawton, “considering it was their first time racing together, in tidal waters quite different from Doha bay, competing against top America’s cup crews brought in from Australia, France and Germany to sail for boat owners from the Gulf States – we gained 3rd positions in the final two races as their was good wind and perfect conditions for “The Office”; had the wind been kinder during the first half of the week, we would almost certainly have been amongst the top boats”
Having experienced the different conditions and eyed up the opposition, the crew will practice hard to compete in the 2009 Maktoum Trophy for a top prize.
