The NSSA awards are intended to provide a series of easy stages towards learning to sail and RYA certificates.
The three awards are Bronze, Silver and Gold
The awards are designed to encourage good seamanship through the development of crewing skills, team work and competent helmsmanship. They are equally applicable to single-handed boats or those with centre mainsheets as the same principles apply.
There are no specific limitations as to their use, although they may be of most appeal to the younger students. In certain cases, individual practical sections, which are not applicable, may be assessed in theory only.
Assessments will be made by a Local Association, Teacher or a suitably qualified Sailing Instructor. Bronze and silver awards may be issued on the spot. Gold awards will be issued by the Chief Instructor. Each section may be initiated by the instructor as it is completed.
