  • Can assist with rigging a dinghy
  • Can name basic parts of a boat (i.e. hull, mast, rudder, tiller, daggerboard, sheets etc)
  • Can put on a buoyancy aid correctly
  • Is confident in water, wearing a buoyancy aid
  • Can tie a figure of eight , reef knot and cleat a halyard
  • Know what to do in the event of a capsize (stay with boat)
  • Can launch a dinghy and get underway with assistance
  • Be a responsive crew under instruction (i.e. adjust balance, daggerboard and mainsail)
  • Be able to steer when sailing and being towed and go-about (reach to reach)
  • Can paddle or row round a short triangular course (sprit paddle or oars)
  • Can assist with recovery and stowage of dinghy and gear
  • Is aware of wind direction
  • Understand personal safety and know what to wear for sailing
  • Understand what action to take to help those in distress
  • Understand local hazards
  • Know how to prepare for a tow
