Not so many people are aware that the optimist is numerically the biggest sailing class in the world, and that exOptimist sailors won gold medals in all the dinghy classes at the Barcelona Olympics. The boat is, in fact, a remarkable design an easilycontrolled thoroughbred racing dinghy that provides superb onedesign racing, and responds to and rewards the highest skills of top sailors. The Optimist is sailed by over 150,000 young people in over 70 countries.
